Portage Collegiate Trojans were part of the Zone 4 High School Hockey League's Showcase Day yesterday.
They played a pair of games, losing 4-1 to WC Miller in their first outing, with Chad Miller notching the Trojans' only goal.
In game 2, Mountain emerged with an 8-2 triumph over PCI. Brendan Brydges and Jaden Vandene were the Trojans' goal scoeres in that one.
Coach Ryan Simpson isn't surprised at the results from the Showcase, because they've played a lot of hockey recently, with the Mountain contest being their third in roughly 18 hours. He thinks the team may have been looking ahead to a trip to the US this weekend. Simpson credits the play of Mountain as well, describing them as a smooth team, with good skaters.
No rest for the Trojans this weekend, as they head south of the border. Simpson says they'll be in Minnesota to play some exhibition games versus high school teams there. They'll also attend a Division 1 college game.
Simpson believes the trip will help team bonding because there are a number of younger players with the squad.
Despite their record at the Showcase yesterday, Simpson's pleased with the team's play over-all.
