80 Students Raise $1700 In 7 Days

Just under $1,700 was raised in support of relief efforts in Haiti, at Ecole St. Eustache in just 7-days.

That according to Grade 5 and 6 teacher Danys Lachance who feels the fundraiser was a success because of how it was organized.

He notes students had 4-days to bring in change, starting with pennies on the first day, nickels on the second, all the way up to cheques and bills on the 5th day of fundraising.

As a result, Lachance feels youngsters not only understood, but felt a part of the donation process.

He notes staff at Ecole St. Eustache promote the concept of giving among students, and adds Student Council was already organizing a fundraiser for World Vision when news of the tragedy first hit the air-waves.

He feels the tremendous support of parents and community members is indicative of small-town will to help thy neighbor.

He feels this mentality is what motivated many St. Eustache residents to give large donations to the cause, even though the school could not provide them with tax reciepts.
