Changes Needed To Loan Program
The head of the Canadian Pork Council says the federal loan loss reserve program has been a failure so far.

The program aims to give struggling producers access to government-backed loans.

Jurgen Preugshas says only 113 producers out eight thousand across the country have qualified.

He says they're disappointed that lenders are not treating the government-backed loans any differently than a regular loan.

Preugshas says most producers don't have enough equity to qualify for loans if the financial institutions don't adjust their criteria to account for the government guarantee.

Producers are encouraged to get in touch with the Manitoba Pork Council if they're having trouble qualifying for a loan.
