New Program Will Diversify Workforce

A new pilot program is being offered to immigrants in the West Man region. 

The Assiniboine Community College in Brandon is working with three financial institutions to offer the Credit Union Immigrant Member Services Training Program.

Roger Loewen, essential skills coordinator for ACC's Adult Collegiate, says the idea came about because immigrants were coming to the Centre with wide ranging skill-sets.

He notes ACC wanted to target the financial industry.

Lowen says criteria requres participants have multiple years experience in the field, in their home country.

Loewen notes the program begins with 5-weeks of courses teaching english, and Canadian work-culture.

He adds the following 12 weeks of work-experience in the 3 area Credit Unions, is paid.

Loewen feels the experience is win-win, adding as the demographic changes in rural manitoba, so does the service sector.
