The malting barley industry is looking to recognize the best malt barley growers. A number of companies and industry stakeholders have created the Canadian Malting Barley Grower Recognition Program. "What the industry wanted to do was recognize growers with the best practices for growing malt barley," says Doug Munro, malting barley program manager with the Canadian Wheat Board. The information from these growers has been compiled to create an outline of the best practices for growing malt in western Canada. This brochure can be found on the CWB and some of the participating companies' websites. Gilbert Sabourin of St. Jean, Barry Suneart of Deloraine and Perry Brown of Rossburn were all nominated for the 2009 program. |
