Big Win For Blaze

The Portage Blaze returned to the win column with an emphatic victory last night.

Victory is sweetest when you've known defeat.

The Portage Blaze were perfect examples of that quote last night. After almost two months without a win in the Winnipeg Women's Soccer League , the Blaze returned to the win column in style.

On the road in Winnipeg to face the SE Shooters, the Blaze opened things early, getting a goal from Sarah Mansell in the first five minutes.

Mansell struck again before halftime and Portage held a 2-0 cushion at the break.

The second half belonged to the Blaze as they poured pressure on the Shooters keeper, getting shot after shot. After several near misses and one of the crossbar, Thiaya Brazeau would tickle the twine, putting the Blaze up 3-0.

The Shooters tried to mount a comeback but could muster just one goal in the final ten minutes as Portage took it 3-1.

The win puts Portage's record at 2-5-4 on the season. They'll look to keep their recent momentum going in their next game. It will be a tough go though as they play host to the top team in the First Division , Rooster F.C.

The two teams met earlier this season with Rooster F.C. coming out on top 4-1.

They'll lock horns August 4th at Republic Park.
