Asham Comes Home To Big Crowd

Asham takes the face-off against Portage captain Cory More.

Portage la Prairie's Arron Asham was back on home ice yesterday, being joined by some old friends.

Asham, a winger with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins, suited up with a group of friends against the Portage Terriers in a charity game, benefiting his Chance 2 Play Foundation.

In the end, the Terriers took it 10-9 in a shootout, but the winners were the children of the Central Plains region, with money raised going towards buying equipment to help them play hockey.

Joining Arron on the ice was cousin and former Portage Terrier Marcel Pruden. He says it's always a good time when they can take the ice together.

Another former Terrier on Asham's team was Cam Asham. He says seeing the foundation pick up some funds and put smiles on kids faces is always a treat.

As for Asham himself, the Penguins winger was thrilled with the turnout, especially after putting the event together so quickly.

Asham and friends will put on one more charity game this weekend when they face the Oakville Seals on Saturday.
