Interlake Consumers Coop Honoured With Award

nov232012 coop award

The Interlake Consumers Coop was recently named the Community Futures East Interlake 2012 Cooperative Business of the Year.  General manager Dennis Laing says the award means a lot to them, noting 2012 is the International Year of the Cooperative so just to be nominated was very humbling.  Laing says it's a great feeling to know their efforts to run a good, sound business are indeed making a difference in the communities they serve.  He adds what makes it really important for them is that the general public recognizes the significant contributions coops across the system are making in these smaller, rural communities.  Laing says they owe their success in no small way to their membership who continues to support them, and to the support they receive from the Federated coop as well as the efforts put forth by their employees, management team and the board of directors.  He notes they currently have the award on display in the adminstration office in the food store in Arborg, adding they're getting very positive feedback from folks---many of whom say they absolutely deserve this honour.
