News from the Herman Prior 55+ Centre

Haley Parson: Executive Director

August 28 - September 4, 2014

The Herman Prior Centre will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary with an Open House on Wednesday, September 3rd from 4pm to 8pm. There will be information and demonstrations of our programs, as well as a chance to register for a number of programs. Join us for Chili and a bun, and complimentary cake!

Our health and well-being programs include a foot care nurse, podiatrist, Beltone hearing clinic and a blood pressure clinic. The blood pressure clinic is free, and operated by a volunteer registered nurse. A stroke recovery support group meets once a month at the centre. The other clinics charge a fee- call the Herman Prior Centre for more information.

The fitness programs include line dancing, tai chi and Aquasize. Aquasize is held at the Shindleman Aquatic Centre on Mondays and Thursdays, and Herman Prior members pay a reduced rate. Line dancing is held Monday mornings and led by Terry Safruik of Prairie Wildfire Line dancers. Tai chi is a gentle, therapeutic exercise and classes are held Wednesday mornings.

Our recreation programs include cribbage, euchre, bridge and whist, as well as floor curling and floor shuffleboard. If you don't know how to play these games but are interested in learning, members are available to help you learn. Cards are scheduled Monday to Thursday, starting at 1 pm, and Floor curling and shuffleboard are on Fridays.

We have several arts and crafts groups that meet at the Herman Prior. There are painting groups that meet Monday and Wednesday mornings, and a Swedish weaving group that meets Thursdays.

The Herman Prior Centre also hosts special interest groups including genealogy and Natural History, as well as a social chat group. Drop down to the centre September 3rd to get more information on these and our other programs.

There will be a trip to the Narcisse Snake Dens on September 16. The cost is $35 for member and $40 for non-members, and includes lunch in Teulon. Call or drop by the Herman Prior Centre to sign up for any of these trips.

We are launching our new website on September 1st! Check it out at www.hermanpriorcentre.com.
