News from the Herman Prior 55+ Centre

We are a Senior Services 55+ Centre, but you do not have to be 55 years or older (or even a member!) to participate in our activities. Have a look at what's happening at the Prior Centre. You'll find bus trips, Christmas shopping opportunities, music, dances, meals, cards, arts, exercise, entertainment and more. Membership is $25, and members enjoy reduced prices for some special events. There is a participation fee for activities - members pay $1 and non-members pay $2 to participate in activities at the Prior Centre.
Our doors are open from 8:30 - 4:30, Monday to Friday. Please drop in and see what we're all about! Ask for a list of programs and activities that are available.
Jam Session - Friday, October 14th
This is a new fun music group, for anyone who plays a musical instrument, likes to sing, or just enjoys listening to music. Join the fun and meet some new people. The Jam starts at 1:30 p.m. on the 2nd Friday of each month.
Bus Trip to Brandon - Wednesday, October 19th
Join us as we visit Brandon's Prairie Oasis Senior Centre for a roast beef lunch at noon, then it's your choice to spend 1 ½ hours at either Lady of the Lake - Cafe & Shop, OR at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. Then it's back on the bus to Brandon Seniors for Seniors for a cup of tea and a muffin before heading back to Portage. A relaxing and entertaining day for all!
Departure from Herman Prior Centre at 9:30, and return about 5:00 p.m.
Cost is $50 for HPC members, $60 for non-members. Bus fare, roast beef noon meal, tea & muffins are all included.
Registration Deadline is Friday, October 14th.
Halloween Birthday Party & Dance - Friday, October 28th
Come dressed as you are or come in costume! The dance is free and starts at 1:30 p.m. Cake and ice cream will be available for $2. Any member with an October birthday is a Special Person and gets cake & ice cream for FREE! The dance features 2 spot dances and best costume prize!
Christmas Craft Sale & Flea Market - Friday & Saturday, Nov. 4 & 5
Shopping in the Prior Centre! 50 tables of items to browse through, so plan to come early! In addition to all those tables of crafts, the Prior Centre will also have a bake table, a flea market table, and a used pocket book & jigsaw puzzle table. There will be a lunch canteen open on both days for snacks, meals, or coffee, and you can enter the door prize draw. Admission is only $1.00.
Remembrance Day - November 11th - Herman Prior Centre will be closed for the day.
Voices of the Prairie - 10th Anniversary Celebration - Saturday,November 12
This is the 10th Anniversary show for Johnny Dietrich's "Voices of the Prairie", featuring the Sharpe Sisters CD release. All proceeds will benefit the Herman Prior Centre, so we encourage all members and friends of the Prior Centre to attend. It's reserved seating at the Canad Inns Ambassador Room, doors open at 6:00 pm, showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.00.
Another Bus Trip and More Shopping - November 30
Here's a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping or just to have a fun day at the St. Vital Shopping Centre. The bus leaves from Prior Centre at 9:00 a.m. and returns about 4:00 p.m. Members pay $35, non-members pay $45.
Christmas Day Dinner at the Prior Centre - December 25
Yes, Prior Centre is cooking dinner on Christmas Day! No cooking or cleanup for you!
Adults $15, Kids 6-12 $7.50, under 6 - FREE. Dinner at 1:00. Mark your calendar now, and watch for further information about reserving your seat.

Regular Activities at Prior Centre
Noon Meal Program - The Herman Prior Centre offers a full cooked meal at noon each weekday for $7.00, take out orders for $8.00. The meal includes coffee & dessert, and all ages are welcome. Call before 11:00 a.m. to reserve your meal. Monthly menu charts are available at the Prior Centre or call (204) 857-6951.
Herman Prior Centre Gift Shop - open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. For a unique gift, come and see the items for sale in our gift shop. We have items from moccasins to baby clothes and many more, handmade by local artisans.
Prior Centre Book Nook - open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. Books are $1 - $2, jigsaw puzzles are $1 - $10. Donations of books are always appreciated.
Scrabble - Join us for a game of Scrabble played every Monday at 10 a.m. - New players are always welcome.
HPC Medical Equipment Loan Service - We have donated wheelchairs, walkers, and other medical equipment available to rent. Call (204) 857-6951 for information.
Podiatrist Dr. Bellmont comes from Brandon to client appointments at the Prior Centre.

What interests you? Call us at (204) 85-6951 for a schedule of activities - some things that are offered: Painting, Line Dancing, Floor curling or shuffleboard, Book club, square dancing, Tai Chi, card playing, weaving, duplicate bridge, cribbage, genealogy, and more. Come and try something new!
