Audition Call!

Prairie Players will hold auditions for their upcoming Fall Production of the comedy, M*A*S*H, written by Richard Klassen, based on the TV Series, and adapted and Directed by Christopher Kitchen... Sept 1 and 2, 7pm, at the William Glesby Centre. (Enter through green stage door on west side.)  Production will take place Nov 17-20, 2010 (4 nights).  There are 11 characters - 7 men and 4 women, and they are:  Hawkeye, Trapper, Radar, Klinger, Col. Blake, Houlihan, Burns, Col. Flagg and 3 nurses.  Scripts can be signed out from the Portage Arts Centre, beginning on August 13th.  For more info, please contact Director, Christopher Kitchen, at 856-6023.




Air Cadet Registration (7:00PM - 9:00PM)
Local youth interested in the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program can come in and register to become an Air Cadet. The Cadet Program is the largest federally-sponsored youth program in Canada that includes the Royal Canadian Sea, Army and Air Cadets. It is a national program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the sea, army and air activities of the Canadian Forces.

War Brides Tea (2:00PM - 11:59PM)
The Portage and District Arts Centre presents Bev Tosh's touring exhibition, War Brides: One Way Passage in the gallery from August 24 to October 30th. The Arts Centre is hosting a War Brides Tea to celebrate all War Brides and their families on Sunday September 12, 2010 in the gallery. Everyone is welcome! The exhibition features portraits of war brides on large wooden panels as well as several large works on canvas. These paintings capture the spirit of these young women as they began their journey into a less than certain future. The exhibition also includes a parachute and shoe installation symbolizing the leap of faith that War Brides under took, stepping into the unknown as well as the tear bottles display and various personal memorabilia from the 40’s. We are grateful to have Dr. Robin Carter to sponsor this incredible exhibition.

The Manitoba Down Syndrome Society is hosting its 3rd Annual Buddy Walk. This is a fun filled afternoon for the whole family that helps raise awareness of people with Down syndrome. No matter what your age, all you have to do is put on your walking shoes and have some fun! By participating in this 3km pave walk (shorter walk available), you are giving people with Down syndrome in Manitoba a change for a brighter tomorrow.
