Portage la Prairie's Big 4 Hockey League's made a big change this season in hopes of adding more players.

The senior recreation hockey league's officially dropped their age restriction to 25 instead of 30 plus. Big 4 Treasurer Travis Foster says they felt it was a good opportunity to bring in some younger talent. He explains what led to their decision to attract younger members.

"The Classics League that runs for the 40 and over, and of course Big 4 does lose players once they reach the age of 40, so hopefully this will generate some more interest in that age group to join up."

The Big 4 League opens with a league draft shortly after registration deadline. Foster says it's one of the things that keeps the league fun, and interesting.

"Everybody's name gets put up on the draft board and our 4 captains go ahead and build their team for the year. Then we start all over again the year before and you could be playing with the guy you were trying to beat up the year before."

Foster adds you get a lot for the $350 registration fee including 26 games with refs and time-keepers, playoffs, and stats. The registration deadline is September 8th and the Draft is September 15th. For more information on Big 4 or registration, contact Wes Huber at 204-870-0527.
