Central Plains managed to sneak a point from Pembina Valley in today's Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action at the BDO Centre. They lost a 5-4 in overtime.

Pembina Valley came out strong in the first, outshooting the Caps 14-9, and scoring twice to lead 2-0 after 20 minutes.

"The last couple of games we've been pushing and tracking our performance with regards to puck battles," says head coach Brad Gnidziejko. "We have been winning more than our fair share of puck battles, and we're on the positive side of the ledger. Some games you'll get more than you deserve, and some games you're going to get less, and today was probably one of those games where we got less than we should have."

The second started with a flurry of three Central Plains goals in under four minutes. Lane Taylor started them off with a powerplay goal, and Reilly Funk scored a minute later to tie the game at two. Joey Moffat added another even strength marker at the 3:42 mark to give the Caps their only lead of the night. The Hawks answered back with a couple of goals of their own to regain their one-goal lead for the third period.

The Caps came out flying in the third and scored 27 seconds into the final frame. Logan Calder scored his first in a while to tie the game off a deflection in front of the net. They continued to dominate the time on attack for most of the third, but couldn't seem to solve Hawks' goalie Aaron Brunn.

Four-on-four led to a few chances at both ends of the ice, but it was the Hawks who capitalized on a broken play in front of Caps' goalie Riley Sveistrup to get the two points.

"At times we tried to make an extra pass and maybe get a little too fancy when really, at the end of the period when the ice is junk it's all about getting the puck to the net," says Gnidziejko. "Let's face it, their goalie played unreal too. He stoned us in the first period, down two-zip with a lot of chances and played strong. That's what he's there for right? Kept them in the game and held out for a win in overtime."

They're off until Saturday when they host Eastman at the BDO Centre.
