The Winnipeg Jets have moved within two points of the eighth and final playoff spot in the National Hockey League's Eastern Conference thanks to a huge victory on Friday night over the team they're trying to catch.

Dustin Byfuglien scored at 9:21 of the third period to lift Winnipeg past Washington 3-2 at MTS Centre. Nik Antropov and captain Andrew Ladd with his 24th of the season also scored for the Jets. Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec stopped 20 shots. Brooks Laich and Mathieu Perreault did the goal scoring for the Capitals. Washington netminder Tomas Vokoun faced 28 shots. The Jets (34-29-9) will wrap up their three-game homestand on Sunday when they meet the Carolina Hurricanes.
