Downtown Winnipeg witnessed the end to another National Hockey League hot-streak last night as the Winnipeg Jets went on to defeat the Dallas Stars 5-2 at MTS Centre.

The Stars entered the game on a 11-game point streak (10-0-1). They have outscored their opposition 34-16 in that span and have jumped from 10th in the Western Conference to third.

The Jets had their work cut-out for them as they continue to try and keep pace with the Washington Capitals who had a six point lead on the Jets for eighth in the Eastern Conference going into the game. Winnipeg did have an advantage as they were coming off a four day layoff, their longest in-season break next to the six days given at the all-star break. While the Stars were playing in back-to-back games beating the Minnesota Wild 1-0 in St. Paul the night before.

Nik Antropov got Winnipeg the start they needed when he snipped his 11th of the season at 2:21 of the first period. Antropov's demotion to the fourth line over the past couple of months hasn't demoralized the big six foot five centre.

Winnipeg Jet's head coach Claude Noel was very satisfied with the fourth line's play. “They had a good week of practice. They got us on the board quickly, said Noel. Antropov could have had a couple of goals tonight. I thought that line was very effective for us.”

Winkler native, Eric Fehr also contributed his second goal of the year during the Jets scoring spree, which included goals by Evander Kane scoring his 28th and Andrew Ladd notching his 22nd and 23rd of the season.

Fehr had a rare start on the “GST” line alongside Tanner Glass and Jim Slater with the absence of Chris Thorburn who is out of lineup for the next three weeks due to injury. Fehr hasn't suited up for the Jets in quite some time, he has been a healthy scratch over the past seven games and has only received 18:29 of ice time in the last 13 matches. With that said, Fehr didn't miss a beat, blocking a shot and then skating in alone and blasting a slapper high glove side on Richard Bachman for the game winner at 8:28 of the second period.

Fehr was asked after the game why he wasn't smiling about his break through performance. “I like to pretend I have done it before, said Fehr. It definitely felt good, it turned out being an important goal for the team.”

Noel was quick to comment on his winger's performance during his post game remarks, “I thought he played with spirit, battled along the boards, and fit in good with the line.”

Dallas Stars' forward Loui Eriksson showed how dangerous Dallas' attack can be striking for two goals late in the contest; his 24th and 25th of the season. But the game was already over and Ondrej Pavelec continued to shine making 28 saves for his 26th win on the season.

The Jets have their biggest game of the season coming up tomorrow when they host the Washington Capitals. Winnipeg's victory over the Stars now puts them four points back of Washington.

“The Washington game is two points, but really its four points. We look forward to Friday it should be beautiful,” said Noel.

Winnipeg has been spectacular at MTS Centre (22-10-4). They will need to continue their home ice success if they want a chance at making the playoffs, because seven out of their remaining 12 games are on the road, where the team is a dismal 11-19-4.
