It was a split night for PCI's junior varsity volleyball teams last night in Portage.

The JV Saints came away winners in 4 sets over Oak Park in the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference, while the Trojans fell 3-1. Saints' Grade 10 player Maggie Shwaluk on the victory.

"It feels pretty good. We're a pretty strong team, so I think this season should be pretty fun."

The Saints fell 25-18 in the first set, and stormed back to win 3 straight. Shwaluk explains why she feels the team will be successful this season.

"I think we're pretty aggressive on our offensive part of our game, and we really gel as a team really well. It makes playing volleyball that much more fun."

The JV Trojans picked up their only win in the second set, winning 25-22 over Pak Park. Trojans' Head Coach Ryan Muirhead says it wasn't their best game after a weekend a exception play in Neepawa. He feels it's just a matter of building confidence.

"I think they have skill, but you can tell they're tentative on the court. It's something we're going to keep pushing away at, it's a hard thing to coach confidence, but I think with time and knowing their positions better they'll get more confident throughout the season.

The Saints' and Trojans' varsity clubs look to remain undefeated Wednesday in West Winnipeg Athletic Conference Volleyball.

Both clubs host Fort Richmond in PCI's East Gym. The Trojans are first at 5 p.m. while the Saints look for payback after being eliminated by FRC in last year's semi-final at 6:30.
