A late game collapse almost cost the PCI Saints two points, but a late Morgan Parynuik goal sealed the win with little time to go. They beat J H Bruns 4-3 in Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League action at the BDO Centre in Portage.

"We let off," says Saints' Head Coach Jo-Anne Clark-Gillespie when asked about their third period performance. "The girls have to realize that the inconsistency and thinking they can just cruise is going to cost us. They pressed and capitalized on our mistakes last time, and they almost did it again here."

The Saints were leading three-nothing heading into the final 20 minutes of play, but they seemed to get away from what was working, getting into the corners and winning individual battles.

"I did like though how their tying goal went off Bailey Grantham's leg, and she came to the bench and said she was going to get it back," laughs Gillespie. "She went down with her linemate Morgan Parynuik right after they tied it and did exactly that."

Saints' forward Chelsea Owens led the scoring with two goals on the night, connecting with teammates Paige and Kiera Shwaluk for both. Clark-Gillespie has high praise for Owens' progression this season.

"We've put (Owens) on with the Shwaluk twins -- Maddie and Paige -- and she isn't as fast as them, but she understands the game so well," says Clark-Gillespie "She's come so far this year and works very hard. She knows when the Shwaluks start busting down the ice she need to get straight to the net and battle, and it's paying off for her. She's a good compliment to that line bringing some strength in front of the net."

Bailey Grantham and Morgan Parynuik each finished with two points as well, a goal and an assist. Parynuik's goal was the game winner. Goalie Haley Swidnicki picked up her seventh win of the season for the Saints.

Their next game is Monday when they visit St. John's. The Saints moved into second place with the win.
