Eight powerplay opportunities couldn't get the job done for the Portage Islanders last night, as they fell 6-3 to Carman at the PCU Centre in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League. They won't have much time to dwell on it as Stonewall's in town tonight for their second in as many nights.

"Honestly, I don't think we were moving our feet and we were struggling to get the puck through to the net," says Islanders' forward Dan Leslie, who finished the night with two even strength goals. "They've got such a good goalie in Steve Christie we have to put pucks on net and get bodies in front to bang one in, and we didn't. We're not going to score any pretty ones on those guys."

The Islanders went 0 for 8 on the powerplay, including four short 5 on 3's. Carman finished the night 2 for 4 and had a shorthanded goal late in the third. The loss extends Portage's losing streak to seven.

"We've been on a bit of a negative streak here, but I think we have the team that can get it done at the end of the day. We'll regroup tonight against Stonewall, hopefully play as a team, and get a roll going."

"Stonewall works hard," adds Leslie. "They like to skate hard and put the puck in the net, but if we can get all four lines rolling and put pucks toward the net we should be able to beat them."

The Flyers have lost their last three heading into tonight's match. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. at the PCU Centre.
