RCMP Musical Ride

For more than 100 years Mounties have stirred the emotions of Canadians with the spectacle of the RCMP Musical Ride.

The cavalry drill manoeuvres which are choreographed to music will be performed in Carman this summer. Dufferin Ag Society President Elaine Owen confirms the community will be hosting the ride August 8th, and they are already excited. Owen adds the RCMP Musical Ride will take place on the track next to the grandstands, and they will have seating for spectators on three sides.

The ride involves a lot of organization with 36 horses that travel in three trucks, with a fourth truck transporting tack and stable equipment. Owen notes some community volunteers will definitely be needed for this prestigious event. She points out the event, which is rich in history, is going to attract a lot of positive attention.

This Canadian tradition, with it's roots in the North West Mounted Police, dates back to 1887. 32 riders will perform the bridal arch, the wagon wheel, dome and much more. The ride was last in Carman in 2004.
