This year's theme of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Portage la Prairie Bowl For Kids fundraiser was appropriate, given current weather conditions in our area.

Bowlers were decked out in Hawaiian garb, as they helped the organization in its largest fundraiser of the year. The goal was $18,000, but Executive Director Dawn Froese thinks when the count is done, they'll have raise $16,000.

She admits not hitting their goal could impact some of what Big Brothers/Big Sisters does, but they'll look at other fundraisers through the year to make up the difference.

Froese is grateful for the community's continued support of the long-running event, adding there's always a mixture of regular participants with newcomers. She describes it as a wonderful weekend, with lots of laughter and people enjoying themselves.

She notes they'll announce the best-dressed team later this week.
