The PCRC Dirt Dash at Republic Park today was a success despite the rainy weather, with 25 teams and individual entrants from across Manitoba coming out to take part in the event.

Team Dirt Devils participated in the Dash, and say it was good fun, agreeing the mud pit was definitely the most fun and most difficult obstacle. They added it was helpful to have a team to make it through certain obstacles.

Victoria OlsenPCRC Community Facilitator Victoria Olsen anticipates the Dirt Dash to become an annual event and comments on the turnout.

"The turnout has been really good despite the weather, but even though it's kind of misty it's adding to it because everything is so much more slippery. I'm watching these teams come through these mud pits and they are covered head to toe in mud but they have smiles on their faces and that's all I really care about. I'm so happy that everybody's having a blast."

Olsen adds the PCRC is thankful to all the community's support of the event.

Portage's Golden West Radio was one of the sponsors of the event. Program Director Ryan Simpson explains.

"The PCRC does a lot of great work in the community and we like to work closely with them. When they first came up with the idea it was something that it really seemed to make sense to be a part of and now we're here today, seeing how much fun people are having. I know the weather's not really cooperating that well but hopefully [the Dirt Dash] will turn out to be a big fundraiser in the end because that's what it's all about, and if people can have fun at the same time then everybody wins."

Simpson also participated in the event and notes some of the obstacles were tough but it was meant for fun.
