Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty.

Will there be political fallout from Thursday's federal budget for the conservatives?  Many are predicting it will contain cuts to government spending in some form, but exactly where won't be known until Thursday afternoon when Finance Minister Jim Flaherty delivers it.

Brandon University Assistant Professor Kelly Saunders tells us there could be, if in fact it is a bad news budget. But Saunders says it may not be not bad as predicted or to the same degree as had been seen in the 90's during the Chretien government."

Saunders believes Canadians are receptive to the feds reigning in spending somewhat, but that will depend heavily on where and how severe the cuts are. She believes Canadians are beginning to understand the government needs to spend money in order to protect the economy and jobs during recessions

Saunders stresses Canadians receptiveness to cuts will be dependent on how drastic they are & that the Conservatives could be quite strategic with their cuts.
