People across the Central Plains likely won't need many of these this year.

Manitoba Water Stewardship is optimistic the Central Plains is due for a fairly positive spring. In their latest flood update, they suggest the 2012 run off occurred early and is complete on the Red, Souris, Assiniboine and Pembina Rivers, as well as in the southern Interlake.

Executive Director of Regulatory Services and Operations Steve Topping says all of southern Manitoba can all breath a sigh of relief as the threat of spring flooding has all but dried up.  As for the Portage Diversion, Topping says while it ran well above capacity for much of last spring, it is very unlikely it will see substantial volumes this year.

Meanwhile, on major lakes with open water, Topping says strong winds could still pose flooding problems along the beaches.  Lake Manitoba currently still have ice cover. with unfavourable weather, localized minor to moderate flooding could occur could hit the Interlake.
