School will be back in session soon and the Interlake school division is preparing to greet students once again. Superintendent Christine Penner says they've had a roof redone at Teulon Elementary along with some renos at the board office, noting they're also looking at building a climbing wall in two of their schools. Penner says they're halfway through their current four year strategic plan and are moving forward with initial assessments and classroom profile meetings. She adds they're also looking to build capacity this year with subject and grade meetings. Penner says because some of their schools are very small, if you're the only Grade Two teacher in your school it would be nice to meet with other Grade Two teachers in the division.

She notes something new and exciting this year is the addition of a behaviour lead teacher. Penner adds they've been implementing restitution in their strategic plan, with all division employees trained on restitution, so they're excited to be moving forward. She says the person coming in is highly trained in restitution and will have the ability to go into the schools on two different levels----to help deal with students who may be difficult to handle, and to be proactive about finding positive ways to deal with kids when they act out while also dealing with any underlying issues which may exist. Penner notes she sees this new lead teacher coming in as being a very positive influence in the schools.
