It's the final day to express your opinion on how to make the city of Portage la Prairie more accessible. The city's Accessibility Committee has been gathering input, in order to create a plan to improve access to the city's spaces. While an open house was held earlier in the month, Councillor Liz Driedger says there's still a bit more time to provide feedback. A survey regarding the city's accessibility plan wraps up at the end of the day. It's available through the city website, or in paper form by dropping by city hall.

Dozens attended the city's open house to discuss the matter, discussing areas or buildings that can be a challenge to access. Driedger says they hope to continue to receive feedback on the plan, noting it's an important step in improving portage's future.

"We really feel it's important to remind organizations what is needed to make the city more accessible to the public. This is important for those who have issues too, to be able to get in and out of places. As a city, we're working toward that."

Under provincial regulations the city must have a plan to complete accessibility in place by the end of 2016. Driedger admits one area of concern is city hall itself, with Council chambers located on the second floor, and no elevator in place.
