Portage la Prairie has purchased a year’s worth of chemicals for the city's water supply. Just over $626,000 dollars will be spent for nine different products.  Some of the chemicals purchased include, just over $400,000 dollars set aside for lime, a little under $50,000 for chlorine and $20,000 for flouride. Councillor Irvine Ferris says this is simply the annual replenishing for the city stock and that they still have more than enough in reserves in place until the new products arrive within the next few weeks. He says some of the amounts are for less than a year while others are bought in bulk amounts, so some will actually exceed a year's amount.
