Lights out for a time at the intersection of Saskatchwan and Royal

UPDATE (9:45 a.m.):

Power has now been restored to all customers in the city of Portage.

Glenn Schneider, Public Affairs Manager with Manitoba Hydro, says at about 8 a.m. approximately 1000 customers lost power. By transferring service to other lines, they were able to restore service to about half of the affected area by 8:45 a.m., and the remainder by 9:30 a.m.

The cause has not yet been determined, but Schneider says wildlife may have come into contact with power lines.
