Manitoba Housing District Manager Scott Lawrence

Manitoba Housing is doing what it can to clear up some of the misconceptions people may have about them.  District Manager Scott Lawrence discussed the departments purpose and ongoing efforts with members of the Rotary Club on Tuesday.

Lawrence says it's important to clarify some of the misinformation the public hears about residential units and their accessibility. He notes rental amounts are dependent on a person's income and that the rates usually work out to 25% to 27% of a person's gross income.

Lawrence says since they started their own integrated pest management group a few years ago, they have been able to better eliminate bed bugs and pest activity. He says the latest monthly inspection has found that all its housing units are completely bed bug free.

In Portage, Manitoba Housing owns and operates 303 residential units.  Lawrence says there is a high demand for units as they are completely full and have a big waiting list for houses.
