Ajay Aggarwal is now on the list of voters to choose from when Portagers hit the polls next month to decide the next installment of city council.

Aggarwal says he plans to bring a three-point system to the council, which includes transparency, accountability and participation.

"So. basically trying to change the whole system. With these three points, where you have transparency, accountability and participation, we can handle any issues: beat homelessness, beat crime, beat economic development, anything."

The council hopeful says he believes he is very qualified for the role.

"I have 16 years of leadership experience working with the world's largest telecom companies and 12 years of experience in Portage la Prairie in opening various businesses and running various businesses. So basically, people in Portage know me as a businessman. But most of them don't know that before business, I had very big leadership roles in different multinational companies. So, I bring a lot of knowledge, a lot of experience and a lot of vision and leadership to the plate."

Aggarwal adds that he moved to Portage in 2010, and in those 12 years, there have been a lot of changes in the world.

"The past council has joined a marvellous job. They have done the best of their ability, but if you want to take the city to the next level, you have to bring a change."

Aggarwal notes that his main slogan is, "Working together for a change."
