Alphonse Ducharme

With sadness we announce that Alphonse Ducharme (Jinx) passed away on April 4, 2023 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 76 years.

Alphonse will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia (nee Ricard) of St. Ambroise, MB, children Alex Lipke and Colin (Kelly) Ducharme, grandchildren Janelle Houle (Zach), Braden Lachapelle (Toriea), Jaxon Ducharme, and Sarynity Ducharme, great granddaughter Charlie Houle, siblings Ben (Donna), Claire (Arny) Theresa and Cathy, in-laws Fran (Edzo), Edgar (Trish) and Rod (Cathy), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alphonse was predeceased by his parents Phillip and Aldea Ducharme, siblings Molly, Alma, Phylis, Mary-Ann, Anita, Tony, Wally, Ralph, Richard, Fred and Edward, son-in-law Keith Lipke and in-laws Frank and Elmira Ricard.

Alphonse was born on March 24, 1947 in St. Ambroise, MB. He was the 8th born in a large family of 16. He attended school in St. Ambroise until he started working around age 15. He worked for his brothers-in-law and farmers in the community. Later in life, he worked in construction, roofing, commercial fishing, and then started his trucking career.

Alphonse met his love Patricia in St. Ambroise. The two married in December 1968. Their family grew with the arrival of their daughter Alex in 1970 and son Colin in 1979. They raised their children in the community of St. Ambroise.

Alphonse was always in the yard or his shed tinkering away with a project. He loved fishing and camping with various friends and family through the years. He could often be found at the kitchen table playing solitaire. Alphonse loved spending time with his grandkids; teaching his Nelly to count cards in crib, Braden how to work on cars, and many quad rides with Jaxon and Sarynity. He especially loved spending time with his new great-granddaughter Charlie.

He always had a joke to crack and an exaggerated story to tell. He would help anyone with anything and had a forgiving soul. His family will remember the many laughs with ‘papa’. He will forever be missed and loved.

Private services will be held at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Alphonse’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1379 Kenaston Blvd, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
