Residents of Portage la Prairie will have some professional help in answering that question as the Portage fire department goes door to door this evening for "Battery Blitz".

Deputy Fire Chief Phil Carpenter says its an optional activity, and firefighters can be identified by their uniforms. He points out they will be offering a number of services and answering any questions you may have about fire safety. Other services will include changing your batteries, installing fire detectors and doing basic home inspections.
Carpenter adds they've received good feedback about the event, and he hopes this will help the Portage Fire Department build connections with the community and raise awareness about fire safety.
