Science was the subject and means for four Austin Elementary School students to bring home silver and gold from the Western Manitoba Science Fair. Principal Kim Young says late January, February and part of March saw a science fair held at the school in Austin for those interested in this bit of extra work for their own idea of a science project. The fair at Austin Elementary took place mid-March.

"The winners from that Science Fair continued on to the Western Manitoba Science Fair in Brandon," explains Young. "It was held at the Brandon University. We sent ten students to participate in the Science Fair there and we had four winners."

Young says two students placed gold in the Grades Three to Four category for individual projects. They are Natalie Kneeshaw, for 'Bristle Bot Battles,' and Brayden Peters for 'Wheels, Wheels, Wheels.'

"In a group project for the Grade Three to Grade Four category, Deker Kneeshaw and Lukas Kneeshaw won with 'Potato Power!', winning silver," adds Young.

She says they're very proud of the students who went to Brandon with all their well-put-together efforts. She adds each student gave a five-minute speech to share their projects with the judges. Young says they all did extremely well.
