With a new contract in hand to keep him a member of the Manitoba Moose, Foxwarren-born Dawson Barteaux has been a busy man over the last several weeks.

He notes it's nice to get the contract out of the way.

"Obviously, it's pretty exciting to be back in the province I call home. It's just special to be part of such a great organization in the place I call home."

Barteaux notes that he's been busy with a couple other significant events this summer. Barteaux was among the founders of an event called Facing Off Against Men's Cancer, which had formerly been a street hockey tournament, and has transitioned to a golf tournament.

"It's been good, there have been a few extra things planned this year, I just got married a few weeks ago, so it (the golf tournament) got put on the backburner for a bit, but we're getting things going now, and I'm looking forward to it."

The event has seen many pro hockey players attend in the past, such as Barteaux, Cody MacLeod, Conor Geekie and Dean Stewart. Barteaux notes that the support of his friends has been really important for the event.

"Obviously, I'm pretty lucky to be close with those guys. We have a pretty tight-knit group that skates in the summer. So, as soon as I asked them, they were all pretty excited to be a part of it, excited to come out and help in any way, very fortunate for that as well."

The tournament runs July 27 at the Poplar Ridge Golf Course in Onanole. Information can be found on the event's Instagram.
