A possible future shortage of spare bus drivers is causing some concern for the Portage School Division.

Operations Manager Tom Henry says they've had no applicants for the position this year, compared to an average of four or five in previous years.

Henry notes it's not just Portage feeling the pinch - he says other divisions are also beginning to notice a shortage.

Currently, there are six spare drivers in the division, and Henry stresses they will have their full fleet on the road come September.

The division operates twenty buses daily, transporting an average of just under a thousand students.
