Recently two children in Brandon consumed cannabis edibles in the form of a chocolate bar. One of the two children was sent to the hospital experiencing seizures and brain swelling; the child was released days later. Constable Larry Neufeld is the Media Liaison Officer at the Portage la Prairie and stresses parents need to keep any form of cannabis out of reach. Neufeld explains since the legalization of Cannabis in Canada people have been experimenting at home. He adds, when they do, they do so in a way that makes the edibles so they are tasty - kids find that appealing. He notes those who do decide to make edibles are in their full legal right to do so; it's illegal to transport edibles.

"If you're doing this treat it as if it was a medical prescription or alcohol," insists Neufeld. "Keep it in a safe place, well out of the reach of children and or pets."

Neufeld stresses it's all in regard to keeping everyone safe. He adds if at anytime a child ingest cannabis, it's recommended to seek medical attention immediately.
