A local organization is helping reduce the mental health stigma with a Youth Mental Health Summit.

Earlier this week, Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF) put on a one-day event for youth aged 15 to 30. Morag Morrison, Community Connector with CBYF, says that putting something like this on is essential, especially in a city like Portage la Prairie.

"Especially coming out of COVID, youth are struggling with different elements of their mental health, and we also know that youth are not sure what's available in the community and want to learn more," she continues. "We are excited that we've got all these young people together to talk and learn about resources available to them."

The Community Connector says that it's great to see so many people show up for this event.

"I think it shows how needed and wanted something like this. We've got every chair in there packed full, and people are excited to be working on their activities, which is awesome to see."

She explains they have been planning this event since the fall, but the original plan was to have it for only a one-session event. However, they quickly realized something this important needed a longer time frame.

Morrison notes that she is thankful for everyone coming out and participating in each workshop.

"I am excited for this to build momentum for more events like this in the community."
