The status of Sandy Bay First Nation's Chief and Council is uncertain, following a federal Order in Council.

It overturned last September's election, amid allegations of vote buying during the campaign.

Chief Irvin McIvor is frustrated because he believes it infringes on the democratic process. He points out every election in Sandy Bay in the last two decades has been appealed, by people he says didn't like the election's outcome.

McIvor asserts I-NAC doesn't have the jurisdiction to remove the chief and council completely because they're tied to a number of programs in the community.

He adds they haven't received official notification yet, and hope to have a court injunction stopping the order by the end of the week.
