Red River's David Leis receives the keys to Victoria School from Portage School Board Chair Murray McLenehan

A tax deal's been struck between the City of Portage and Red River College.

Red River's moving into the former Victoria School, and will be tax-free for 15 years, thanks to a grant-in-lieu from the City.

The building's assessed at two million dollars, which would have meant $40,000 a year in taxes, based on the 2009 mill rate. Councillor Dave Quinn points out there was a negotiation process leading to the agreement.
