Portage la Prairie city council has found its seventh youth council member, and she was sworn in during October 25's city council meeting.

Jessica Ramachandran will be attending the city council meetings from now until next September. She explains what the selection process entailed.

"Firstly, I had to go to my school office for Mr. Hordeski to give me the form, and then I filled it out and sent it in and I was called for an interview. Then they asked us questions and stuff," explains Ramachandran. "Then I got a call later, saying that I was chosen to be the youth council representative."

She notes when she got the call, she had a meeting with Mayor Irvine Ferris where they discussed her role and what she's expected to do. She says she's spent time with the community working with groups such as the PCRC.

"I'm really excited about a lot of things," explains Ramachandran. "One of them is just being at that table learning about all the things about the city, the process and everything else. Another thing I'm excited about is bringing new activities to the community."

She mentions it's a great honour to be the youth council representative and she's ready to really make an impact in the community.
