Portage la Prairie City Council has awarded the contract for increasing accessibility to City Hall.

Blue Lake Construction was awarded the contract after their tender received a rating of 94.38 points out of 100. Councilor Brent Budz explains how those points were scored.

“There are various factors that are weighed into it,” explains Budz. “price, sustainability, etc. so yes, the scoring for Blue Lake was that it was that much higher than the others.”

Blue Lake was also the cheapest option, with a price set at $310,000.

The improvements to City Hall include installing a concrete ramp on the west side of the building, adding an accessible service counter with fire shutters and associated modifications to doors and stairways.

Budz details how long they’ve been waiting to start working on these upgrades.

“Budgeting accessibility across our community is something that's been something has been very important to this Council,” notes Budz. “So, planning for City Hall and what we're going to do with City Hall has been underway for several years.”.

The construction is set to begin in October and be completed in December, but Blue Lake Construction notes it may be delayed due to material delivery.
