Pothole season has arrived in full force in Portage la Prairie, and the city is ready to fill the holes and get our roads ready for summer.

Jocelyn Lequier-Jobin, director of operations, says that while crews have already started filling in some of these nuisances, the ground is still a bit cold, and they are waiting for everything to thaw out.

She outlines the plan for the next couple of days and what people can do if they have potholes to report.

"City crews will be going up and down all the streets trying to find all those potholes. But if any of the residents would like to report them, you can also call the City Operations Department, or you can also use our service request online system that we use. So, that's on our web page and also on our city app."

Lequier-Jobin notes that this will probably be worse than a typical pothole year.

"I think with the extreme cold temperatures we have this year, it's looking like it's going to be a bit worse than a milder year. So, we are looking at having a few more this year than typical."

Lequier-Jobin adds that the city does not have a specific timeline on when most potholes will be filled.

"It depends a lot on weather. So, I wouldn't want to say a specific timeline, but depending on the other things the crews are busy doing in the next couple weeks, we would hope to hit a lot with them."
