Following the season's first snowfall, the back streets have seen better days in Portage la Prairie.

Director of Operations Jocelyn Lequier-Jobin speaks about when you can expect to have your road cleared.

"We sort of follow the garbage schedule. We try to do it the day after your garbage gets picked up, but depending on the way the storms come, it doesn't always work out. So, we can't guarantee that it'll be done that day, but that's what we try to do."

Lequier-Jobin also mentions the city's plan in regards to sanding the streets.

"We don't sand all streets." She continued, "We sand areas where we know that ice is more of an issue. So, it's standings kind of dependent on when the roads get icy, and we focus on certain areas where there's higher traffic."

According to the forecast, Portage is expecting to see some scattered flurries throughout the rest of this week, so residents should continue to prepare to have their shovels on stand-by.

Correction: The previous version of this story stated that ploughing is done the day "before" garbage day, but we have corrected it to say the work is done the day "after" garbage day.
