The RM of Portage la Prairie held its council meeting on Tuesday. Among the issue discussed was the request from Delta Beach groups regarding the use of temporary docks.

Reeve Kam Blight weighs in.

"The Delta Beach Association (DBA) and the Portage and District Boat Launch Group have requested approval to install and maintain temporary boat docks in the inner Delta channel," says Blight. "A company has offered to let DBA try out the docking system in 2021 free of charge, so the same docking system is something that is proposed by the Delta Marina."

He says the RM of Portage la Prairie has to give them authorization for them to utilize the inner Delta channel to try them out for the coming year.

"There are four 3-foot wide by 10-foot long dock sections that will be installed," continues Blight. "Two dock sections will be fastened to the shoreline to act as a boardwalk, and the remaining two dock sections will be extended out into the water and fastened to the boardwalk for stability."

Blight explains those two docks will allow for four boats to be temporarily docked while waiting to load or unload in the channel.
