Portage la Prairie had it's 5th driest July on record.

Portage experienced one of the driest July's on record.

Environment Canada's Dale Marciski says 23.8 mm of rain fell last month compared to a normal of 72.8 mm, that's the fifth driest July Portage has seen since record keeping began here in 1941.

As for the temperature Marciski says it was the 12th warmest July on record.  He attributes the hot and dry July to a large area of high pressure in the upper atmosphere which deflected systems north and south of us.

August is here and Marciski says we may get a break in the temperature later on in the month, as far as precipitation is concerned he says it looks like the next couple of weeks will continue to be dry.
