The city parks manager says the lack of rainfall in Portage has made for stressed out maintenance crews.

The crew of four -- who would normally be weeding in the city -- have been forced to turn their attention to watering city shrubs and over five hundred trees.

It's Dave Green's priority right now, and will be until the city receives sufficient rainfall.  He says the trees and shrubs will die if they're not watered, whereas the grass will be revived by the rain.

The crew's efforts include covering the planters on Saskatchewan Avenue, the Glesby Centre, and the newly planted trees along Fisher avenue.

Green adds the crews have been strictly watering for over a month now.
