Getting your dance on was part of Halloween fesitivities at Ecole Arthur Meighen School in Portage la Prairie earlier today.

In what has become an annual tradition, the school put on a flash mob, breaking out into sychronized song and dance to the song "Thriller." Student Sydney Rumpli says they practiced for three days to prepare, and it was a lot of fun.

"You get to dance and it's not something you would normally do at school," says Sydney. "You're having fun, dancing with your friends to an awesome song."

Teacher Dan Rosset says they've been doing this for a number of years, and the idea originated from a professional development event he attended. Another phys ed teacher uploaded instructional videos online about how to do the "Thriller" flash mob dance.

"We just basically piggy-backed on that, using those videos," Rosset says. "He goes through step-by-step how to do it. It's a lot of practice and repitition, but a lot of fun."

"And the kids pick it up really quickly, they're all quick learners."

Rosset adds it's a great activity to bring students together and building a sense of community and spirit in school.

"It helps with a lot of the things we're trying to teach the kids, like being nice to one another, having fun and working together to accomplish a goal," he says. "They did really, really well with the dance and accomplished their goal of being able to do it."
