Elm Creek School has been given some money from local businesses for scholarships.

Career Councilor Robyn Woytowich says graduates fill out a form where they mention their post-secondary aspirations and how these scholarships can help them achieve those goals. Some of the scholarships are given out by the businesses, while others are given out based off of the teachers selection.

"It's extremely important, especially for rural students," explains Woytowich. "A lot of times they have extra costs going to post-secondary, whether they're attending somewhere in Winnipeg somewhere else in Manitoba, or even Canada."

She goes on to explain these students need to pay for residency to achieve almost any kind of post-secondary schooling. Woytowich notes scholarships given out range from $100 to $1,000.

"I'd like to thank anyone who contributes to scholarships for our students," says Woytowich. "We are very thankful for them, both as educators and students and we hope that these relationships can continue into the future as I know everyone is very appreciative of them."

She notes they can't wait to award these scholarships in June.
