The Family Resource Centre (FRC) is looking back on a 2021 that saw a whole new set of hoops to jump through.

Executive Director Melissa Morrison says the name of the game in 2021 was adaptability, as the number of changes to public health orders over the past year was very difficult to deal with at times. Once they were able to push past that, however, she mentions it was nice to see everyone in person again.

"There were a lot of grey areas when things started," notes Morrison. "Once we kind of got our clarification though from the province we felt very confident in our plan. Moving forward, we still had to change things and adapt things, and we're still doing that today, but there's at least a little bit more known."

She adds, one of the biggest focuses for the FRC was making sure families felt comfortable talking to them, whether that meant online or in-person. Another point the FRC worked hard to accomplish over the year was solidifying partnerships, which would allow them to work even more closely with the community.

"We're primarily stable through grants, but we do rely on fundraising and donations in order to kind of do all the things that we do," notes Morrison. "There's always more we want to do, and there is a good chunk of our budget that we do need to fundraise every year, so we're always looking for support that way."

When asked about the upcoming year, Morrison is mildly optimistic, saying that she hopes everyone's eating and socializing in person at some point this year.

"I'm confident we'll be able to do great things for this community in the upcoming year," explains Morrison. "it might not be back to normal, per se, but we're still going to be able to make an impact on a lot of families and that's what we're here to do."
