Portage la Prairie's Whoop and Hollar Folk Festival's been nominated for a Brewno award, by the Winnipeg Independent Music Award, in the Small Festival category.

Festival Artistic Director Josh Wright admits when they received the e-mail informing them of the nomination, they weren't sure what to do.

Josh Wright"Because we had never been nominated for an award outside of the community," he says, "And actually an award at all. When we realized that, we said is this for real, and they said yes, you've been nominated by someone in Winnipeg or Manitoba that had been to your festival, or really liked what you do for the local music and arts community."

Wright calls it very humbling.

"Because it shows the buy-in of musicians and music lovers in Manitoba," he says, "It's obviously those people that have attended the festival in the past and have seen how it impacted them, which is why they nominated the festival."

The awards will be handed out April 6th in Winnipeg. Here's where you can vote.
