Portagers are going to have to wait a little longer to test out the Crescent Lake causeway and new roundabouts.

It was originally intended that the new piece of infrastructure would open last week, however necessary work needed to be completed by Manitoba Hydro has caused a slight delay.

"Once Manitoba Hydro has completed the work they need to do, we will be able to finish the paving that connects the roundabout to Crescent Road, which is a great thing," says Portage city councillor Ryan Espey. "And once that happens... the lines are painted, the signs are installed, we will be able to open the causeway for track. Which, given the amount of construction going on at the Saskatchewan Ave., will definitely, I think, be welcome for the citizens of Portage la Prairie."

Espey says it would be too much of a gamble to provide a firm date as to when the causeway will officially open, but encourages citizens to stay up-to-date with the City's social media accounts for the latest information.
