The Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa took part in a recent forum to discuss issues important to Manitoba's municipalities.  Robert Sopuck says during the meeting municipal officials talked about the perennial issue of infrastructure, noting smaller communities often have very great needs in that area and not enough tax base to support those needs.  Sopuck says when a community is too small to support major infrastructure expenditures, many times one of the reasons is the lack of economic development.  He notes participants in the forum discussed the strategies required to get their economies diversified and growing again.  Sopuck says municipal officials are being urged to apply for all the funds which are available to them, adding Members of Parliament will do whatever they can to help out.
